Fire Restoration Guide โ€“ Bedrock Restoration

Navigating the Path Home

Experiencing a house fire is overwhelming. We are here to bring clarity to the chaos. This guide will walk you through exactly what happens next, from the first 24 hours to the day you move back in.

The First Few Days

Understanding the immediate aftermath is crucial. Here is what you need to know right now.

๐Ÿš’

Fire Department's Job

Before anything can happen, the fire department must investigate the Cause and Origin of the fire. The property is in their control until they officially release it back to you.

๐Ÿ“ธ

Document Everything

As soon as it is safe to enter, take photos and videos of everything. Document the structure, your belongings, and the damage. You cannot over-document this stage.

๐Ÿ“‹

Lean on Your Agent

Your insurance agent is your ally. Call them immediately to initiate the claim. An adjuster will be assigned for an initial assessment. Ask questions about your policy coverages.

Crucial Advice: Do Not Rush to Sign!

Many companies will show up and push you to sign a contract immediately. You have time. Do not be pressured into signing in a moment of panic.

๐Ÿค The Bedrock Two-Contract Promise

At Bedrock, we use two separate contracts: one for Mitigation (cleanup/drying) and one for Reconstruction. We don't believe you should be forced into a rebuild decision right now. We're confident you'll love our team during cleanup โ€” but if you don't, you have zero obligation to use us for the rebuild. You stay in control.

Setting Realistic Expectations: The Timeline

A major fire restoration typically takes 9 to 12 months from the date of fire to move-in day. Here is a general breakdown of that time.

*Timelines vary by fire severity, insurance approval speed, and local permitting.

Handling Your Belongings (Contents)

One of the most confusing parts of a fire is knowing what to do with your stuff. A dedicated Contents Expert will be assigned to help. Here are the most common questions.

Absolutely NOT. Do not throw anything away until the Contents Expert and Insurance Adjuster have documented it. Even a pile of ashes that was a dresser has value to your claim.
Yes. Take pictures of everything you can safely access โ€” open drawers, closets, electronics, furniture. This builds your inventory list.
No, please wait. Standard cleaners and washing machines can bake soot and smoke into fabrics permanently. Professionals use specific chemical sponges and ozone treatments to save items.
Very common. You don't need receipts for everything. Experts value items based on age, brand, and condition using standardized pricing databases to ensure fair valuation.
No. Once the Contents Expert has documented, photographed, and inventoried items, they can be packed out to a secure facility for cleaning/storage or disposed of if a total loss.
Yes โ€” this falls under "Personal Property" on your policy. You may first receive Actual Cash Value (depreciated), then once you replace the item and submit a receipt, they pay the difference up to Replacement Cost (if you have that coverage).

The Full-Service Restoration Process

Bedrock handles everything from the ashes to the final coat of paint. Here is how we restore your home to pre-loss condition โ€” or better.

1

Mitigation & Stabilization

Often, the fire department uses thousands of gallons of water. We immediately extract water, dry the home, and prevent mold growth.

2

Debris Removal & Selective Demo

Once contents are safely removed, we clear all ash, debris, and non-salvageable materials (drywall, flooring, insulation).

3

Deep Cleaning & Deodorization

Soot gets everywhere. We clean deep inside wall cavities, then use thermal fogging or ozone to permanently eliminate smoke odor from the framing.

4

Estimating & Adjuster Advocacy

We compile a highly detailed rebuild estimate and walk your adjuster through every line item, advocating fiercely so you get paid what you deserve.

Why this matters: Insurance companies want to save money. We make sure corners aren't cut on your rebuild.
5

The Reconstruction

With the estimate approved and permits in hand, our expert crews rebuild your home to code โ€” putting everything back together, right.

Understanding Your Funds

Insurance payouts are rarely one giant check. Funds are distributed in stages to cover specific aspects of your recovery. Understanding these "buckets" prevents financial panic.
